U.S. President Joe Biden recently vetoed a Republican-sponsored resolution. The resolution seeks to reverse new rules issued by the Biden administration last year that allow some parts needed for the construction of charging stations to be non-" American "in the short term, a move that Republicans claim will allow U.S. funds to be subsidized for Chinese-made products.

Biden said the resolution would hurt U.S. manufacturing and jobs.

According to ABC News and the New York Times, the US government earlier planned to build 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations in the United States by 2030, and invested $7.5 billion in federal funds for the construction of this charging facility according to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed in 2021. The "Buy American" requirement in the bill requires the construction of federally funded electric vehicle charging stations to use raw materials such as steel produced in the United States. Last February, the Biden administration waived the requirement that U.S. materials be used, as long as the charging devices themselves are assembled domestically.

Republicans opposed the measure and sent it to Biden for his signature. But Biden on the 24th vetoed the Republican resolution. The White House says the Republicans' resolution will hurt domestic manufacturing and jobs.

ABC commented that widespread availability of charging devices is critical to meeting the Biden administration's goal of ensuring that electric vehicles account for half of all new car sales by 2030.
